Random Facts About Me Q&A

Hello! Hope you’ve had a lovely weekend so far. The weather has been grey and rainy here (and probably across most of the UK) so I’ve been having a cosy weekend in 🙂 Today I bring you the Random Facts About Me Q&A which the lovely Megan tagged me in (you should go follow her amazing blog!!). I’ve had so many blog post ideas lately but I just can’t seem to start writing them???? Or I start a draft then decide that it isn’t interesting enough to post anyway but I’m hoping this tag will get me back into the swing of things.

Without further or do, here are the questions!

When was the last time you cried?

Sometime last week as I was having a bit of a breakdown about cooking (learning to cook for uni is really stressing me out and my parents keep bringing up how useless I am. But I’m getting there!! I could for my family three times this weekend!)

If you were another person, would you be a friend of yourself?

Hopefully. I mean, I am quite odd – my family could back me up here, I randomly quote songs or speech from adverts/films/TV programs or start singing at multiple times throughout the day so I’m probably a bit annoying but I try to be a loyal and caring friend so??? Probably. 😂

Do you use sarcasm a lot?

Not really. Well sometimes I do but I wouldn’t say I am naturally sarcastic but sometimes sarcasm just comes to me! Idk AHH!!

What’s the first thing that you notice about people?

Their smile. I’m quite a smiley person and I usually look to see if other people reciprocate my smile when I first meet them. 🙂

Scary movie or happy endings?

Definitely happy endings!!!

Favourite smells?

Campfires, bread and cinnamon. (If someone could make a candle out of all three scents that would be gr8).

What’s the furthest you’ve ever been from home?

A little village called Stanzach in Austria where I stayed on a Scout camp. Although the furthest I’ve been ‘independently’ without ‘adults’ (funny bc we were all technically adults) would be Amsterdam where I traveled last month with two friends.

Do you have any special talents?

Not really, I can juggle but that’s not very special 😂

Where were you born?

In my hometown in Somerset!!

What are your hobbies?

Blogging is my main hobby, but I also like to be arty and paint/sketch/make things. I can play the guitar and am learning the keyboard but I don’t play my instruments very often.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

The first career I remember wanting to go into was being a scientist as I got a really cool science book for my birthday once. Then alongside that I simultaneously wanted to be an artist, a zookeeper and a professional cricketer. Then a vet at one point, then a historian and now I’m not heading down any of those paths 😂😂

How many countries have you been to?

England, Wales, Scotland, France, Germany, Austria, The Netherlands. So 7 but we can’t really count England right??

What was your favourite/worst favourite subject at school?

I think I had a lot of favourites at secondary school – history, geography and French being the main three which I carried on at A Level. I think my least favourite became science because I didn’t get on with my teacher at all (which is a shame because it put me off doing science altogether) but also English, mainly because we only got to study American literature and I never got to study Shakespeare at all 😦 Also English wasn’t taught very well at my school. Maybe that’s a little unusual as I like writing and reading generally but just not having to do English at school.

What is your favourite drink?

Hot drink would have to be hot chocolate and cold drink would probably be a smoothie!!

What would you (or have you) named your kids?

Haven’t really thought about it so I have no idea 😂

Who are some of your favourite Youtubers?

My fellow blogger pal Janet Bargmann 😉 and study Youtubers like Holly Gabrielle and Eve Bennett. Although I don’t watch a great deal of YouTube!

How many boyfriends have you had?

None 😂

What is your favourite memory from childhood?

Ahh like Megan I can’t pick just one?! So a few would be dressing up with my sister and performing plays for our parents, making an elaborate Doctor Who game with my friends in primary school and writing a script for it and picking blackberries with my family in the Autumn!

How would you describe your fashion sense?

I don’t really know how to describe it because it changes a lot?? But I generally wear a lot of shirts and jeans and either brogues or DM-style boots. (My friend and I have a running joke about my wardrobe being full of shirts…it literally is though I’m a bit of a shirt addict)

Tell us one of your bad habits?

Spending too much time getting sucked into social media instead doing actual productive things.

Hope you enjoyed reading my answers. I’ve been wanting to do a tag like this for a while so you get to know a bit more about me 🙂 If you would like to do this tag, all you’ve got to do is answer the questions above!

Shuffle Song Tag :)

I haven’t done a tag in such a long time (sorry to anyone who’s nominated me, I don’t often have time to do them and keep losing track, but thank you anyway!) but I saw Bethany did the Shuffle Song Tag on her blog, and I was interested to see how my music taste has changed since the last time I did a tag like this.

So the rules are to press the shuffle button on whatever platform you use to listen to music and reveal the first ten songs that come up.

Here are mine:

London – Paris Youth Foundation

Paradise – George Ezra

Hard Times – Paramore

Tiger Teeth – Walk The Moon

Lost in Paris – Tom Misch, GoldLink

Wild Love – James Bay

Mercy – Madame Monsieur

Hell – Eliza and the Bear

Falling – HAIM

Hunger – Florence + The Machine

I feel like my music taste has definitely broadened in the last two years! I still listen to some of the same artists like Walk The Moon and James Bay which will always be amongst my favourites, but I’ve started listening to smaller artists too. 🙂

Hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into my music taste and if you’d like to do this tag too, consider yourself tagged!!

Music Habits Tag!

Hello! The awesome Ana Regina @ Diversion 3000 tagged me to do the Music Habits Tag, which was created by Sumedha @ The Wordy Habit. I haven’t done a tag in a very long time (sorry to anyone who’s tagged me in anything!) but since I love music, I thought I’d give it a try!

The rules:

  • Tag the creator.
  • Thank the person who tagged you.
  • Answer all the questions.
  • Tag at least three friends.

Do you download songs or stream on apps like Spotify, Wink?

So mostly I stream music on Spotify or occasionally YouTube. I don’t really download songs as such but if I really like an album I’ll buy the CD then transfer the songs from that into my phone.

What’s your current favourite song?

Oooh I think it would have to be between Cheetah Tongue by The Wombats and Everybody Wants To Be Famous by Superorganism. They’re songs I just keep hearing on the radio lately and consequently end up singing or humming along to subconsciously 😂 Ahh but there’s also Wild Love by James Bay that I’m in love with 😍

Last song you listened to?

According to Spotify, Hard Times by Paramore. I actually really love this song so this is also kind of a current favourite (it’s so hard to just pick one favourite eek!)

Who are your all-time favourite artists?

I have quite a few to be honest, the artists that I’ve been “in to” for quite a long time are Catfish and the Bottlemen, James Bay, Bastille and Walk the Moon but more recently I’ve fallen in love with HAIM. Also anyone who knows me will know how stupidly obsessed with the Bee Gees I am. Then there’s bands like Take That who were the soundtrack to my childhood so y’know, should probably include them too.

Have you been to any concerts?

Yes! My first concert was The 1975 a few years ago. Since then I’ve seen Catfish and the Bottlemen (who were amazing) and I went to Leeds Festival for a day last summer, where I finally got to see Bastille (my baes) amongst other artists including Ratboy, Bear’s Den and Kasabian to name a few (you can read all about it here!). This month I’m going to see Eliza and the Bear and Walk the Moon, both of which I’m very excited about!

Do you play any instruments?

I actually learnt to play the guitar and ukulele in year 8 – my mum and sister taught me. Then I tried to self-taught myself piano for a good few years but it was very hard so I don’t really play piano much anymore. However I still play guitar quite often – I can still remember the chords no matter how long I don’t practice for, ukulele on the other hand, I’ve forgotten the chords. Oops. I would like to learn piano properly one day as it’s such a beautiful instrument.

Do you play your songs on shuffle or choose a playlist?

I usually play a playlist. At the moment I have one called “2018 motivation” that I made at the start of the year with a few songs that help to put me in a positive mindset for the year ahead and I’ve just been adding new songs I like ever since. I never really put all my songs on shuffle as I listen to so many genres it’ll jump from musicals to 80s to indie and I’m never in the mood for all those types of music at the same time!

Name one song that you always skip when it comes up on shuffle.

I don’t think there’s any particular song, because it depends what playlist I have on, but sometimes if an older song comes on by an artist I’ve listened to for years and know all the words to, like James Bay for example, I may skip it because I prefer to listen to their newer stuff. However that doesn’t mean I don’t like to reminisce and listen to older music, I’ve just got to be in the right mood.

Do you prefer playing songs on a speaker or listening in ear/headphones?

When I’m studying I’ll use a speaker (well…my laptop or radio) because wearing headphones gets in the way but when I travel to and from college in the bus I always listen to music through earphones (don’t think people would appreciate me having a race on the bus 😂).

Are there any popularly liked songs that you don’t like?

Controversial opinion but: I just don’t like Ed Sheeran’s music?? I know everyone is obsessed with his songs but I’m just not a fan of them. Sorry guys.

Where do you usually find new music? Example through shuffle online, recommendations.

Usually through the radio! I spend a lot of time listening to BBC Radio 1 and Capital FM when I’m studying or on the bus, so usually I’ll hear new songs on their and if I like them I’ll add them to my 2018 Spotify playlist. Occasionally Spotify will play a suggested song that I like, but that’s very rare.

Do you like songs based on tunes/beats or lyrics?

Both! Most pop music I like because of the beat – it’s good to (attempt to) dance along to, but I feel like the quality of most current pop song lyrics is declining. Then there are songs I like because the lyrics stand out to me, even just a line but if I feel a connection to the lyrics, I like the song a lot more. For example at the moment I love the line “let’s leave the atmosphere, disappear” in Wild Love by James Bay.

Name one song that you think everyone should listen to.

I would have to say Falling by HAIM. I mean, all of HAIM’s songs are amazing, but this one in particular always motivates me with it’s repetition of “never look back, never give up” (and their voices are so beautiful, you should just listen to them like seriously).

That’s all the questions – I actually really enjoyed answering them and finding out more about my own music habits.

I’m going to nominate Victoria @ Doodles and Scraps, Jas @ It’s Simply Me Jasmine and Ellie @ The Diary of Ellie

Please don’t feel obligated to do it, and likewise if you’d like to do the tag and haven’t been tagged, please feel free!

//The School Routine Tag//

Hello! So the other day Eve did the School Routine Tag over on their blog, and I thought it was an interesting and cool tag to do, so I thought I’d give it a try (even though I go to sixth form college not school but hey ho)! I love hearing about different people’s experiences of school haha.

1. How long does it take you to get to school?

Well, it usually takes between 50 minutes and an hour on the bus for me to get to college, but sometimes it can be a lot longer as the bus service is really unreliable (when you end up stood at the bus stop for 45 mins waiting for a bus service that’s meant to be every 10 minutes…does anyone feel my pain??). When I was at secondary school, it was only a five minute walk away so it’s quite a different journey to back then! The annoying thing is, by car it only takes around 20 minutes to get to college but I don’t drive so have to use public transport (buses are painful argh).

2. What do you like to eat for lunch?

It depends on what I feel like really. I usually pack my lunch the night before to save time in the morning and my lunch usually consists of sandwiches, a cake of some description, a muesli bar, grapes, sometimes dried fruit or an apple as well and sometimes crisps. Although once a week I make myself some pasta with tomato sauce and in the summer I ate pasta and salad a lot, so it really depends on the season and what I feel like eating, and obviously what food we have at home!

3. What classes are you taking?

I’m taking three subjects  – A Levels in French, history and geography. 🙂 In the UK, it’s the norm to take 3-4 A Levels as they are so intense!

4. What’s your favourite subject?

Ahhh this is hard! It’s difficult to pick when you aren’t studying a great amount of subjects, but I’d probably say it changes between geography and French. I love geography because I have a great group of friends in my class and we have really academically-stimulating discussions (as well as laughing at pretty much EVERYTHING) and I just generally love how I feel more connected and knowledgeable on world affairs by learning geography, BUT I really don’t like physical geography, which makes up half of the subject, so it can’t be my favourite if I don’t like 50% of what we’re learning! French is another contender for favourite though as my classmates are really friendly and funny and I feel really comfortable talking French around them, which is very important when learning a language. Plus there are only 6 of us, so it’s a pretty unique experience and I love learning in a small group. The lessons feel more laid-back to my other subjects as you learn languages in a completely different way to everything else, plus the topics we do are very up-to-date and interesting, like at the moment we are learning about diversity and marginalized groups of people in France and french-speaking countries. But obviously sometimes I find French very hard and stressful, which takes a bit of the enjoyment out of it she says whilst mere weeks away from applying to do French at university.

5. What’s your least favourite subject?

Regrettably this would have to be history. For the whole of my secondary school life, I was convinced I wanted to be a historian, but to be honest I’ve sort of been put off by A Level. I mean, the A Level programme is well structured and there is a lot of flexibility over what your teachers can choose to teach you, but I haven’t had the best experience. For one I don’t really feel comfortable around my classmates , not to mention the fact that we had three teachers last year because they kept leaving and we ended up being taught the same stuff multiple times and missing out huge chunks which meant I had to spend ym summer catching up. So yeah, history isn’t my favourite, but I am enjoying it a bit more this year as we’ve got a good teacher and we’re learning about the witch craze, which is so strange but surprisingly interesting lets not mention my 4000 word assignment due in in two months that I haven’t started yet.

6. What grade are you in?

I’m in year 13, so the last year of compulsory education in the UK! (Although I am going to go to university next year because I clearly haven’t had enough of studying)

7. What time do you get out of school?

Because I go to a sixth form college that isn’t attatched to a school, we don’t operate a normal school timetable. So, the times I go to and leave college are different each day – Friday’s I don’t go in at all! – and everyone has a different timetable dependent on subjects, so some of my friends I hardly see because we’re in at different times. So Monday’s I finish at 12pm, Tuesday’s I finish at 4:30pm, Wednesday is the same as Monday and Thursday I leave at 4:30pm. Some of these days are half days though, except Thursday which is 9-4:30pm.

8. What do you like to wear to school?

I usually go for a pair of comfy jeans and a t-shirt or shirt, depending on how cold it is. Sometime I’ll wear my denim jacket over my t-shirt for a bit of extra warmth and in the winter I tend to wear woolen jumpers and hoodies. Occasionally I’ll wear a dress, skirt or shorts with tights.

9. How early do you have to wake up for school?

If I’m starting at 9am, which is three ays a week, I have to wake up at 6:30am *sighs* because I have to get the bus at 7:40am. But on days where my lessons don’t start until after lunch, I don’t set an alaram so I usually wake up between 8am and 9am.

!0. What’s your favourite item in your backpack?

I’m probably gonna have to copy Eve on this one and say my pencil case. I’ve had it for about three years and I love the design so much, plus stationary is one of my favourite things in life and I couldn’t survive at college without my pencil case! (Mainly because I wouldn’t be able to make my notes pretty).

That was quite fun to do so if you want to give it a go, consider yourself tagged!
